The 6th of our WightKarting Winter Race series races took place this month. Here’s all of the action that took place…
Coming into the race Dale lead the heavier weight class and Michael Jolliffe was leading the light race class. There were tight times with close points throughout.
The format of the night then was decided as follows.
In the qualifying round every driver raced one timed lap in Kart 17 to set the fastest time possible. These times determined the Qualifying positions with the pole being taken by Mike Jolliffe 1st Harrison Crickmore 2nd and Dale Hunt 3rd.
Mike’s Qualifying time in kart 17 was 36.289, Harrison was 36.324, Dale was 37.009.
50 LAP RACE
The start of the race was very exciting, Marcus Allen had a great start and took 1st place after the first corner. Mike Jolliffe and Harrison Crickmore followed very close behind. After the First lap Marcus lost control on the top corner which caused Mike a lot of trouble putting them both right at the back of the pack. This allowed Harrison to take the lead and Dale followed behind.
With 32 laps to go Harrison and Dale took an incredible lead that left the rest of the group behind. By this point Mike had managed to battle his way past the other 5 racers in very quick succession and found himself 16 seconds behind the top 2 racers. Charlie Digweed and Dom Clements were battling each other for 4th while Marcus Allen and Lewis Hallet were gaining on them.
20 laps left things started to take place, Harrison was in complete control of the race with a very impressive performance for his age (13). 8 seconds behind the leader, Mike managed to gain one more place and overtook dale with a risky manoeuvre that paid off and the chase to catch Harrison was on. Marcus Allen and Lewis Hallet continued the battle past Dom and Charlie which took them up to 4th and 5th.
By lap 45 it was clear to see that Harrison had done enough to take 1st place. However, Mike managed to close the gap to just 3 seconds and was free from dales pressure. The rest of the drivers held their positions from lap 42 so the race finished
This marked the end of a gripping race series with a variety of names on the podium.
We are hoping the next series is as captivating as this one. This starts on the 13th of march, to qualify for the summer series you will need an average 37.00 seconds or less. You can book your slot here.
