Wight Karting Race Series: Round 1

Round 1

The eagerly anticipated, brand new Wight Karting Race Series got underway on Friday the 26th of September. A fresh roster of debut drivers competing under the floodlights, plus challenging wet conditions meant we were looking forward to an evening of exciting racing. The Race Series gives younger drivers the opportunity to take their first steps into competitive karting against drivers of the same calibre, with both Junior and Lightweight Adult Series’ racing on the 26th of September. Due to multiple drivers having other commitments, we had just 2 drivers for the Junior Series complimented by a fantastic 11 drivers for the Lightweight Adult Series.

The drivers start with a 5 minute practice/qualifying session which allows them to get to know their kart as well as acclimatise to the wet conditions of the track. The results of the qualifying also sets the grid order for Heat 1, this grid order is then reversed for Heat 2, with the grid for Heat 3 being the combined total points won by the drivers through Heat 1 & 2.
