WKRKC Summer Series Final 2024

WKRKC Summer Series 2024 Final

Sunday the 15th of September played host to the final round of the 2024 WKRKC Summer Series here at Wight Karting. We had an interesting dynamic to the racing this round as the top 3 for the Championship were almost guaranteed. Excitingly, Simon Johnstone and Louis Thornton separated by only 10 points at the start of the day. Taking into consideration bonus points for completing all the WKRKC rounds this series and the dropping of the drivers’ worst round result, it was definitely going to be close between the 2 front-runners.

We experienced lovely sunny weather for the races on Sunday. And as soon as our 8 drivers were ready, we began racing in earnest.

Here are the results for each race in Round 6. As always, we drop the worst result from each driver in the Round to determine their points.

Race 1: 1st. Simon Johnstone 2nd. Louis Thornton 3rd. Max Downer 4th. Harvey Yates

5th. Emerson Ridette 6th. Dale Hunt 7th. Angela Martin 8th. Cayden Francis

Race 2: 1st. Max Downer 2nd. Louis Thornton 3rd. Simon Johnstone 4th. Dale Hunt

5th. Harvey Yates 6th. Emerson Ridette 7th. Angela Martin 8th. Cayden Francis

Race 3: 1st. Simon Johnstone 2nd. Louis Thornton 3rd. Harvey Yates 4th. Max Downer

5th. Dale Hunt 6th. Emerson Ridette 7th. Angela Martin 8th. Cayden Francis

Now we have the top 3 drivers from Round 6:

1st: Simon Johnstone –Simon dominated Round 6 with two race victories and two fastest lap bonuses. Going into the day with the championship at stake, Simon certainly delivered. As a result, his commanding victories and a total of 38 points significantly contributed to his championship aspirations.

2nd: Max Downer –Max secured his second podium of the series after an impressive Round 6 performance. He qualified first in the second race and never looked back, winning by 6 seconds and earning the fastest lap bonus. Max finished Round 6 with a series-high total of 31 points.

3rd: Louis Thornton –Louis entered Round 6 at the top of the championship standings and delivered another solid performance. Although he finished second in all three races, a dropped round saw him ending on 30 points, just 1 point shy of Max. Most importantly, despite an unlucky day, Louis had performed superbly throughout the summer series, making it the first time since Round 2 he hasn’t finished in the top two.

Now we can take a final look at the WKRKC Summer Series table:

In terms of points, again we drop a drivers lowest scoring round and also award a bonus 5 points if the drivers have taken part in all 6 rounds.

Simon Johnstone was crowned WKRKC Summer Series 2024 champion after achieving a total of 170 points. Highlights of Simon’s series included 3 round victories as well as a second and third place finishes to go alongside these. With a very strong performance from Simon throughout the whole championship, he has certainly laid down a gauntlet for the upcoming winter series. Well-done Simon.

Louis Thornton agonizingly lost out on top spot in the final round of the championship. However he still finished in second with a massive points tally of 159. Louis achieved a top 3 finish in 5 out of the 6 rounds he competed in including a victory in round 5, very impressive consistency.

Harvey Yates rounded off the top 3 of this summer’s championship with 132 points. But a second and third place finish in rounds 2 and 4 were some of Harvey’s numerous highlights this series. Most importantly, Harvey is a driver that always achieves consistent results. Above all we hope to see him carry that forward into the winter series.

A big thank you to all the 20 drivers who took part in the WKRKC Summer Series. We had a great mix of newer drivers as well more experienced drivers which made a great dynamic on race day. Also we would like to take this opportunity to thank our fantastic marshals, chiefly Jordy and Fraser who always go above and beyond what is expected of them. In addition we want to give a shoutout to Emerson Ridette and Angela Martin who appear to have really kicked on this series and have found some serious pace in the process. we are incredibly excited to see what the Winter Series holds for all our drivers.

With that in mind, we can announce that the WKRKC Winter Series 2024 will commence on Sunday 13th October with a brand-new format. However, that won’t be the only brand new thing… See you all in October and thank you for this year!
