The first round of the new WKRKC Summer Series took place on the 14th of April, with a new format for the 11 drivers competing. To maximise competition between the drivers, we have a new format consisting of a single qualifying lap prior to each of the 3 race heats, this certainly seemed to level up the excitement and unpredictability of the grid for the races. The conditions were fantastic on the Sunday morning with no wind or rain for the drivers to contend with.

The results for Round 1 were as follows:
1st: Moke Jolliffe took top spot on the podium for his final ever WKRKC entry. With 2 race wins as well as 2 fastest laps it was a vintage performance from Moke who finished Round 1 with 37 points. A great way to end his racing career here at Wight Karting!
2nd: Simon Johnstone claimed second place in Round 1 with a total of 33 points. This was made up of a race win followed by a second-place finish in the 3rd heat. All in all, a fantastic result for the returning racer who we hope to see standing atop the podium in future rounds.
3rd: Louis Thornton completed our podium with 2 third place finishes as well as the fastest lap in heat 1. With a total of 24 points to end Round 1 it certainly sets Louis up nicely for the next rounds.
We also wanted to give a big shout out to Harvey, Max, Melissa, Dale, Emerson, Angela, Cayden and Jackson for all taking part. There was some very close racing today with several drivers coming close to reaching the podium, hopefully Round 2 will provide more of the same!
Round 2 of the WKRKC Summer Series will be held on the 12th May and we hope to see as many of you as possible.
