WKRKC Winter Series: Round 1
Sunday the 13th of October marked the start of our new Winter Series here at Wight Karting! After a VERY busy week at the track, we had 13 brand-new Sodi RT-8 karts ready for our drivers to battle it out on the track. As well as new karts, we also have a new format to the WKRKC this winter:
Format:
-The drivers now take part in a single 5-minute qualifying session where all drivers have equal opportunity to set their fastest time within that 5-minute period.
-The order of the qualifying is then used to determine the grid for the first race. So, the quickest driver will be on pole, 2nd quickest in 2nd place and so on.
-For the second race, the grid will be reversed. So, the slowest driver in qualifying will be on pole for the second race.
-Finally for the last race, the grid will be decided by adding up the total points for each driver from the previous two races. The grid will then be set with the driver who has accumulated the highest total points on pole.
-This Series every point matters, as we are no longer dropping any rounds or races, so every bonus point for the fastest lap or the 5 bonus points for completing all 6 Rounds really matter this year.
With the new format sorted, we had 10 drivers on a lovely sunny Sunday morning who were ready for some racing! Here are the results below:
Results:
1st: Melissa Etherington – Melissa took victory in our series opener with a fantastic display of consistent driving, claiming a race win and two second-place finishes! She also picked up two fastest lap bonus points which could be ever so important when it comes to the end of the series. Amazing driving from Melissa, who makes a strong start to the Winter Series with a massive 50 points.
2nd: Harvey Yates – Harvey takes second place on the podium after a solid performance in Round 1. After only finishing 6th in the first race, Harvey then stormed to a race win and a second place in the following two races to finish the day with 39 points. Can Harvey narrow the gap to Melissa in Round 2?
3rd: Angela Martin – Finally in third place is Angela! After an amazing first race, in which she took the victory by some distance, Angela then followed up with an 8th place finish and 3rd place finish. Including a bonus point for her lightning quick fastest lap in race 1 Angela finishes up with 35 points. We hope Angela can continue her fast start to the Series!
That wraps up Round 1 of the new Winter Series here at Wight Karting. With some very close racing all morning, we can expect some fireworks this season and hopefully a very close championship battle. We would like to say a massive thank you to our drivers: Melissa Etherington, Harvey Yates, Angela Martin, Dale Hunt, Moke Jolliffe, Lewis Harmer, Emerson Ridette, Lewis Hallett, Louis Thornton and Cayden Francis. A big thank you to our marshals for the day, Jordy and Fraser!
Round 2 will be on Sunday the 10th of November with a 9:30AM arrival. As usual, this can be booked through our website and on the Wight Karting app! We hope to see as many of you as possible for Round 2!
