WKRKC Winter Series: Round 3
Round 3 of the WKRKC took place on Sunday the 12th of January, after being postponed a month due the poor weather throughout the month of December. We had 8 drivers lining up on the grid for 3 action packed races, with cold but dry conditions, it was time to race!
Format:
-The drivers now take part in a single 5-minute qualifying session where all drivers have equal opportunity to set their fastest time within that 5-minute period.
-The order of the qualifying is then used to determine the grid for the first race. So, the quickest driver will be on pole, 2nd quickest in 2nd place and so on.
-For the second race, the grid will be reversed. So, the slowest driver in qualifying will be on pole for the second race.
-Finally for the last race, the grid will be decided by adding up the total points for each driver from the previous two races. The grid will then be set with the driver who has accumulated the highest total points on pole.
-This Series every point matters, as we are no longer dropping any rounds or races, so every bonus point for the fastest lap or the 5 bonus points for completing all 6 Rounds really matter this year.
Results:
1st: Moke Joliffe – 2 race wins and a 5th place finish from Moke was enough to seal top spot on the podium. Having qualified with the slowest time, Moke seemed to get his tactics perfectly right to make up several positions during the first race and then going on to dominate the remaining 2 races. A final points tally of 44 points moves Moke up to 6th place in the overall Championship standings.
2nd: Melissa Etherington – A race win, a 3rd place finish, a 7th place finish as well as a fastest lap bonus meant that Melissa claimed 2nd place in Round 3. With the fastest qualifying time of the Round, Mel took advantage of her starting position in the first race to take victory. Melissa finished Round 3 with a total of 36 points meaning she retains her lead atop the overall Championship standings.
3rd: Dale Hunt – With final finishing positions of 2nd, 3rd and 5th, Dale certainly consistently delivered high points finishes throughout Round 3. After finishing 4th in the previous 2 Rounds, Dale made the jump to claim 3rd place in Round 3 with some strong driving as well as some very effective defensive positioning at points during the races. It was very close in the end, with Dale finishing on a total of 35 points, only 1 point behind Melissa in 2nd place. Dale now moved up to 3rd place in the overall Championship.
With the completion of Round 3, we would like to extend our thanks to all drivers who took part: Moke Joliffe, Melissa Etherington, Dale Hunt, Harvey Yates, Louis Thornton, Emerson Ridette, Lewis Hallett and Angela Martin.
Round 4 of the WKRKC Winter Series will take place on Sunday the 9th of February. We will hopefully see you all there!
