WKRKC Winter Series: Round 4
Round 4 of the WKRKC took place on Sunday the 9th of February. We had 6 drivers lining up on the grid for 3 action packed races, with cold but dry conditions, it was time to race!
Format:
-The drivers now take part in a single 5-minute qualifying session where all drivers have equal opportunity to set their fastest time within that 5-minute period.
-The order of the qualifying is then used to determine the grid for the first race. So, the quickest driver will be on pole, 2nd quickest in 2nd place and so on.
-For the second race, the grid will be reversed. So, the slowest driver in qualifying will be on pole for the second race.
-Finally for the last race, the grid will be decided by adding up the total points for each driver from the previous two races. The grid will then be set with the driver who has accumulated the highest total points on pole.
-This Series every point matters, as we are no longer dropping any rounds or races, so every bonus point for the fastest lap or the 5 bonus points for completing all 6 Rounds really matter this year.
Results:
1st: Melissa Etherington – Some very impressive driving from Mel today, taking 2 race wins! After a successful qualifying session which placed Mel on pole, she dominated the first race from start to finish. With an impressive overall haul of 46 points Mel extends her lead at the top of the Championship Table with 2 Rounds to go! Well done Mel.
2nd: Dale Hunt – Dale improved from his 3rd place finish in Round 3 to claim 2nd spot in Round 4. He finished with a race win as well as a 2nd and 4th place finish which gave him a total of 43 points overall. Dale has certainly showed consistent pace in the last few Rounds, with his points tallies increasing Round upon Round. He now seems to have a secure hold over 3rd place in the Championship Table, with the chance of challenging upwards in Rounds 5 and 6.
3rd: Harvey Yates – Harvey was very consistent today, with a 2nd place finish as well as two 3rd place finishes. With Harvey, Mel and Dale all heading into the final race on 28 points it was all to play for, with an extremely close race Harvey managed to secure 3rd place overall. This result means that Harvey still holds 2nd place in the Championship Table, can he challenge Mel for the top spot in the coming months?
As always, thank you to all drivers who competed in Round 4: Melissa Etherington, Dale Hunt, Harvey Yates, Angela Martin, Lewis Hallett and Cayden Francis. Round 5 will be held on Sunday the 9th of March and we hope to see as many drivers racing as possible, the link to book the WKRKC is below. Thanks everyone!
