WKRKC Winter series: Round 6 and Awards

The final round of the Wight Karting Rental Kart Championship took place on the 10th of March. We had a combined round of both lightweights and middleweights to make up 11 drivers in total. The results from the races were then split into the respective weight classes post-race.

Results:

Combined

The results for the combined race were as follows:

The driver’s results were then split into their own weight-class tables to reward the championship points.

Lightweight (under 65kg):

1st: Angela Martin claimed top spot in the lightweight category with 36 points. A very impressive day of racing was topped off with two class victories. Well-done Angela!

2nd: Emerson Riddett continued his recent fine form to finish 2nd in class. Emerson’s two 2nd place finishes, plus a bonus point for the fastest lap meant he ended up on 31 points.

3rd: Completing the podium was Louis Thornton, with 29 points. A race win and fastest lap bonus allowed Louis to climb into third place, just a single point in front of 4th.

Middleweight (over 65kg):

1st: There were no surprises in the middleweight category as Jack Goring completed his invincible Winter Series with a sixth win in six rounds. There was no messing around from Jack either, with a race win and two fastest lap bonuses meaning he finished on a tremendous 35 points. Sadly, this will be the last race Jack will be taking part in as he is off to join the RAF. Good luck Jack!

2nd: Max Downer produced some stellar racing to claim second place in the middleweights with 33 points. A race win coupled with a second-place finish was enough to land Max on the second step on the podium.

3rd: Moke rounded off our middleweight podium with 31 points. A race win and a fastest lap bonus from the experienced racer ensured a comfortable finish in 3rd in class.

The Championship:

The results everyone has been waiting for! Both the lightweight and middleweight winners were decided after the intense racing of Round 6. The final championship tables are:

Lightweight: Louis Thornton is the champion of the Lightweight category with a total of 171 points. A dominating series from Louis who is fully deserving of the Lightweight trophy. Harvey Yates and Emerson Riddett complete the top 3 in the category in 2nd and 3rd. A special mention to all lightweights who took part in the Winter Series, as these are our younger drivers it is extremely exciting seeing a new group of drivers come through and produce fantastic racing every round.

Middleweights: Jack Goring takes the Middleweight crown with an 100% record throughout the series, producing unbeatable performances every time he lined up on the start line. Congratulations to Jack on a great 6 rounds ending up on a mighty 191 points. Max Downer snatches 2nd with 141 points and Dale Hunt takes 3rd with 138 points in a tight battle for 2nd. Again, well done and thank you to all drivers who took part in the Middleweight category.

That rounds off the Winter series of the WKRKC for 2023/24. Thank you to all participating drivers and everyone who came along to support.

The Summer series of the WKRKC will begin on the 14th April 2024 with a combined round, we look forward to seeing as many drivers as possible, both new and old!
